NAAS Orientates 100-level Students, Pledges Rewards for Outstanding Students

On the 17th of July, 2023, the National Association of Agricultural Students (NAAS), Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto Chapter under the leadership of Comr. Aminu Muhammad organized an orientation for the newly admitted students at the Vet lecture theatre.
The Program started with an opening prayer followed by a welcome address by the Vice President of the association, Abdulraheem Abdulmujeeb Adanla. "You are all welcome to work college," he said.
The Dean of the faculty, Prof. A.D. Isah in his address welcomed UG1 students officially into the war college "Whether by choice or by accident you are blessed to be in agriculture," he said.
He further enlightened the students on various departments in the faculty. "We have the Department of agriculture economics, Extension and Rural Development, Department of Animal Science...".
Speaking further, he urged the newly admitted students to try by every means to pass all their courses and explain what happens if students couldn't pass the courses.
"You need to pass all your Science courses STA111, MAT101, CHEM101, CHEM102, PHY103...because once you have an 8 Unit carry-over, you shall not be promoted to UG4 (practical year)."
In his contribution, Dr. Ngaski, the Head of the Department of Forestry implored the students to read early and have a good reading companion and group discussions.
"Have your program well planned and start reading on the very day of the course and with good company, you shall excel."
Talking about moral discipline, Dr. Kamba from the Department of Agriculture Extension and Rural Development cautioned students to be of good character throughout their studies. "We don't need to hold a cane, we punish you with our red biro."
Talking about the future, Prof. B.S Malami from the Department of Animal Science said: "The future of this country rests squarely on your heads(Agriculturist)," urging students to hold fast to agriculture quoting the words of Dr. Akinwumi the former minister of agriculture that "In the next ten years, the richest people in Africa will be from Agriculture."
He continued: "Many of you applied for agriculture and some of you were forced into agriculture but I want to let you know you have entered the university with your right leg."
As he was speaking, Dr. Samaki took over saying, "Once you accept your admission from the jamb nothing like you were given agriculture".
Outstanding Students Will Have a Dinner with HOD
Dr. Samaki finally announced the commencement of a commitment from the Department to encourage academic excellence by the students.
"There shall be a dinner with the HOD for students with outstanding performances and a reward for the Foresters after every session."
"The way to the heart of a man is through his Belly as such food security is important to safeguard yourselves," Chief Security Officer UDUS, Col. (Rtd) Gwandu said as he shared the contact of various Security personnel and outposts for students for any assistance.
How well you pass your exams tells what class of degree you shall graduate with
The Faculty examination officer stated clearly that students should submit their files to the Faculty as he explained the importance of updating files with the school.
In the question-and-answer series, several issues were clarified by the Members of the high table.
In the closing remark of the NAAS president, Aminu Muhammad, he urged all students to be of good conduct.
The orientation was said to be satisfactory from general reactions and interviews gathered from the students.
Muhammad Abubakar, a UG1 Student of the faculty, expressed his joy as he partook in the event. "Alhamdulillah for this event because I never expected it to be this informative and organized."
Hanan Jibir, another UG1 student also expressed her joy about the orientation saying, "This orientation is very okay".
In his reaction, Ibrahim Idris, a 200-level student appreciated the organizers. "I must commend the effort of the new administration towards a well-organized event."
