Danfodiyo Varsity Plans to Hold Symposium On Lassa Fever

The Management of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto under the leadership of Prof. Lawal Suleiman Bilbis is set to hold a public lecture on "Continuous Re-emergence of Lassa Fever in Nigeria: Threat to National Development" on the 17th of July 2023 at the University Auditorium Main Campus by 10:00 am.
This information is contained in a flyer released to the public by the university, pasted across notice boards, and obtained by Vanguard Press early this week.
The statement of the invitation flyer reads: "The Vice Chancellor
Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Prof Lawal Suleiman Bilbis invites the general public to the symposium' THE CONTINUOUS RE-EMERGENCE OF LASSA FEVER IN NIGERIA: THREAT TO NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT."
According to the flyer, Prof. Oyewale Tomori will be the Keynote speaker of the event. Oyewale is a Professor of Virology and a former President of the Nigeria Academy of Science students.
The flyer also indicates that the other two sub-topics are to be discussed in the symposium.
The first Paper titled "Epidemiology Prevention and Control of Lassa Fever" will be facilitated by Prof Habibu Abdulrazaq, a Professor of infectious and tropical disease, at Bayero University, Kano.
Meanwhile, the second paper with the title " Development of a Safe and Effect Lassa Fever Vaccine: Progress and Challenge " will be handled by Dr. Muhammad Bashir Bello of King Abdullah International Medical Research Center, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The flyer further presents that the Chairman of this great occasion is Dr. Ifedeyo M.O Adetifa, the Director General of the Nigeria Center for Disease Control ( NCDC), Abuja while the Special Guest of Honor is Prof Moji Christianah, Director General, of Nigeria Agency for Food And Drug Administration and Control ( NAFDAC).
While the meeting will be held on Zoom, the Special Guest of Honour is Dr. Nasiru Sani Gwarzo, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Abuja, Nigeria.
