Inside UDUS: Mixed Reactions as GST 104 Test Results Shock Jambitos

Almustapha Bishir Jume reports,

On July 14, 2023, the 100-level students of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, popularly referred to as Jambitos, sat for their second C.A. test of GST 104.

Students who sat for the test expressed mixed reactions following the release of GST 104 results. The campus was agog of echoes from the shouts of Jambitos across the hostels, who claimed the results were not reflective of their efforts.

In an exclusive interview with Vanguard Press, Umar Muhammad, a 100-level student of Education History expressed shock after seeing the mark he scored against his expectation.

"I was taken aback. I diligently studied the handouts from cover to cover, confident that I had answered most of the questions correctly. However, when the results were unveiled, I found only 6 marks attributed to my name. It was hard to believe."

Sani Sagir, another student from the Department of Biology, aired his frustration while pleading with the management to revisit the results. He said: "To be frank, this C.A. test was thoroughly prepared for, and the questions seemed easy. The magnitude of this failure is unbelievable. Perhaps the school management should investigate the computer systems for potential faults. They need to address this matter."

Unlike others, Ali Abdullahi Khalifa, a UG1 Pharmacy student, couldn't calm his nerves to accept his scores on the test. His words speak of pain and sorrow as he urged the school authority to check the issue.

"This must be a human error or a computer glitch. We deserve to know what went wrong, and they should take measures to rectify it."

A student, who sought to remain anonymous, urged students should embrace the results as fate while describing the scores as 'manageable'.

"What I comprehend is that the results are manageable. What will be, will be. It's in our destiny."

Ibrahim Hussaini, a fresh student in the Department of Education Physics, expressed happiness as he scored higher on this test than the previous one.

"The C.A. test brought mixed outcomes, with some students achieving success while others fell short of their expectations. Many put in their best effort but did not receive the results they anticipated. As for me, Alhamdulillah, I fared better than in yesterday's GST 101 C.A. test."

Calling for Calm, Students' Union Reacts

Following the grievances expressed by 100-level GST 104 CA results, several students of the University who are in their second and above years have called for calm, advising the students to remain patient and take things easily.

Among such students is Naziru Umar, a 300-level student of Education Physics who shared a perspective of gratitude to Allah as he tried to quench the flames of anger exhibited by 100-level students.

"Alhamdulillah, may the Almighty help us all. What I want Jambitos to understand is that such incidents have occurred even before their time. We faced similar challenges during our UG1 days. My advice to them is to remain patient.

Speaking with the SU President, Lukman M. Sanusi regarding the uproar of students in respect of GST 104 CA results, he said that students need to show evidence of any irregularities to address the problem.

"I cannot approach the management or the MIS Director without concrete evidence of result manipulation. The management may not have the time to address individual complaints without substantial proof, while many students complained about low scores like 2 out of 40, none of them provided evidence to suggest inaccuracies in the results or belonged to someone else. If there were reports of power outages or system breakdowns during the examination, I would have reason to complain to the management, but no such reports have been made."
