Inside UDUS: Drug-Free Club Disciplinary Committee Suspends President, Sanctions Four Others

On Sunday 8th October, 2023 the Disciplinary Committee of Drug Free Club, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto took disciplinary actions against the executives which were taken in line with the constitution.
During the congress, the Disciplinary Committee Chairman, Isha Kabir read out the report from the fair hearing held in the early hours of Sunday, to the congress using his laptop.
"At exactly 09:00 am, all available members of the disciplinary committee were present in the venue provided for the fair hearing and waited for 2 and half hours but only one executive of the correspondent was present I.e Khadijah Abdulazeez Hassan," he noted.
"The congress should note that the Disciplinary committee summoned the above-named executives for a fair hearing on 06th October 2023 which they all failed to attend while giving excuses," he added.
Aliyu Yushau, DFC's President was suspended for 3 weeks; Ahmad Salisu, Mustapha Ibrahim and Jibril Mukhtar, the Membership Officer , Welfare Officer and PRO II were impeached respectively. Meanwhile, Khadijah Abdulazeez Hassan, the club's Membership Officer II was fined a sum of one thousand naira.
DFC Constitution and Disciplinary Actions
The DFC Constitution states that "Any Executive Council that becomes absent in a general or executive meeting for three (3) consecutive times without any tangible reason shall be fined N1000 and dismissed from office for the fourth time".
Recommendations from the Disciplinary Committee to the Congress
"In line with the constitution of Drug-Free Club UDUS, the following executive should be impeached from office and must attend all congress meetings to maintain their membership to the club".
Meanwhile, a motion was moved for the impeachment of; Ahmad Salisu Membership Officer I, Mustapha Ibrahim Welfare Director, and Jibril Mukhtar PRO II.
"While Khadijah Abdulazeez Hassan, the membership office II should write an apology letter to the Congress and will pay the sum of one thousand naira only. She is expected to perform her duties as much as she can from now onward, and should not miss any of the executive or congress meetings," he emphasized.
"The disciplinary committee perceived that the President underrated their capacity and treated them as though they were not relevant. This is due to the fact that he failed to appear before the committee when he was summoned," Isah emphasized.
"The committee has hereby, decided to suspend the President for three weeks. During this period, he is expected to attend Congress in order to maintain his membership. The President will be called to a fair hearing after his suspension. The suspension will take effect from 8th-29th October 2023.
In lieu of the above statement, Ishaq Yazeed advised that Congress should take a vote to determine Aliyu Yushau's fate, the President of DFC.
The vote was conducted and the president was suspended.
