Reporter Diary: Coming To UDUS: A Tale of Resilience and Excellence

Embarking on a new journey is a blend of anticipation, anxiety, and excitement, and my first day at Usman Danfodiyo University (UDUS) was no exception. After eagerly awaiting admission into this prestigious institution renowned for academic excellence and character building, my heart was filled with both joy and apprehension. UDUS, nestled in the heart of Sokoto in northwestern Nigeria, is celebrated for producing leaders who shape society.

As I embarked on my maiden voyage to UDUS, the anticipation was palpable. It was a long-awaited dream come true. The journey from Minna to Sokoto was a new experience in itself. I arrived in Sokoto in the evening, the cold air a stark contrast to what I was accustomed to. It was a place full of promises and unknowns, and I was eager to explore both the charm of the state and what UDUS held for my academic pursuits.

My day began with a sumptuous breakfast prepared by Mama Khadija, the wife of a family friend. The aroma was enticing, but my excitement and curiosity overshadowed my appetite. I was anxious to discover the reality of UDUS, a place I had read about and seen in captivating pictures even before gaining admission. The expectations and anticipation only added to the nervous energy that coursed through me.

Upon reaching UDUS, a mix of emotions swirled within me. Reality, in this case, was somewhat different from my expectations. Long queues and the unforgiving sun were inescapable. The wait for my confirmation letter lasted five long days, but when I finally received it, it was a day of immense relief and triumph.

Amid the initial challenges, UDUS revealed its unique appeal. The unwavering commitment of students to academic excellence was evident, with large numbers attending night classes for both independent and group study. The harsh weather conditions played a role in forging the resilience and adaptability that set UDUS students apart.

Beyond academic excellence, UDUS stands out for its emphasis on character. Students are known for their high academic standards and good moral behavior, making them the preferred choice for prospective employers.

Life in the university's residence halls fosters social responsibility and networking, while the tranquility and serenity of the campus instill values of peace and harmony.

The university's challenging exams and continuous assessments test students' intellectual mettle and prepare them for the future. I vividly recall my first encounter with a highly technical physics test, a true mental storm. The experience motivated intensive reading and preparation.

My first day at UDUS was a mix of challenges and memorable moments, but I harbor no regrets. I wear the badge of being a student of UDUS with immense pride, for it is an institution that not only prioritizes academic excellence but also nurtures character and resilience.

Inside UDUS: NUASA-UDUS Sets To Hold Congress Meeting

  Sewedo Khadijat reports In a bid to ensure and improve the harmonious relationship among various levels, the Nigerian Universities Accounting Students' Association (NUASA), Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto Chapter is set to hold congress meetings across all levels of Accounting Students. This information which was obtained by Vanguard Press is contained in a flier, released by the President of the Association,  Akintomiwa Isaac, and shared to many social media accounts. According to the flier, debate, quiz, talk show, miming competition poem recitation and cultural display are the events to be featured on that day.   Abdulraheem Muhammed Olarewaju reports,  In a commendable endeavor to bolster journalistic integrity and sharpen the skills of aspiring journalists, the National Association of Campus Journalists, Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto Chapter, had on Sunday 1st of October, 2023 convened its first congress of the semester, placing a strong focus on editorial training.  Spearheaded by Abdulrasheed Hammed, a seasoned and award-winning investigative journalist, the training delved into the core ethics of journalism, underscoring the paramount importance of maintaining truthfulness and transparency.
