Abdulraheem said, "Tax avoidance and Tax evasion are two main tools utilized by businessmen to dulge tax. Having great consequences on the Nigerian economy, it's safer to say tax evasion is an offense."
Abdulraheem added that imposing a heavy tax on imported goods and a reduced tax on locally made goods would help reduce economic hardship in the country and encourage local entrepreneurship thus moving currency into circulation.
"Tax reform is the set of policies put in place to regulate fiscal policy which is likely to bring about inflation or economic hardship in the country," he noted.
Speaking of the eloquent discourse, Afolayan David, a final-year student from the Department of Accounting, cited the nuances of using fiscal policy to control inflation.
"I gained new insight into the complexities of fiscal policy and its potential to curb inflation," he said.
Salami Mansura, the Club's Assistant General Secretary appreciated the departmental representatives and assured the enthralled audience of a more illuminating session during the next intellectual showdown scheduled to be held in November 2023.
