An Open Letter to My Vice Chancellor: Utilizing Publicity to Showcase the Creative Excellence of Our Exceptional Students

Image
Dear Vice Chancellor sir,   I hope this letter finds you in high spirits and good health. As a devoted member of our reputable university and a keen observer of the remarkable abilities of our students, I discovered that our university is not paying much attention to publicity compared to other universities to showcase the ability, creativity, and resources that our students are endowed with to the world that will facilitate not only opportunities for our dear students but will create a good image of the university at large. I would like to propose an idea that can truly propel our school to new heights. By strategically harnessing the power of publicity, we can effectively showcase the high sense of creativity, brilliance, and exceptional talents of our students to the world. In today's digital age, where social media platforms and digital communication dominate, educational institutions must have a strong online presence. Engaging in purposeful publicity not only promotes ou...

The Power of NEPA And Students' Anxiety

Image
By: Shuaib Ibrahim Haneef On campus, students get worried most about two things: Water and light. But for me lately, I got to realize how everyone had anticipated power to be restored not until when "Up NEPA" sounded like an update.  Having observed our morning prayers at Bakassi hostel masjid, most people went back to bed lazily and a few had to motivate themselves to start the day. As the motivational quote says "If you can't beat them, join them" Yeah... that was exactly the motivational quote I read before sleeping the previous night and without rethinking I joined the trend. Meanwhile, an agriculture lecture is fixed at 8:00 am in every of their test/exam timetable. While I was about to sleep, many "what if" came through my mind. There was this particular "what if" that made me rethink "What if you sleep off and wake up by 10:00 am. What's up with my test?". This particular "what if" brought me out of my 10-minute...

The Tears Of Invisible Students

Image
By: Abdullateef Bala Usman Education is often considered the great equalizer, providing a level playing field for all students to pursue their dreams and aspirations. However, behind the walls of bustling classrooms and seemingly vibrant school environments, there exists an unnoticeable struggle faced by a particular group of students – the invisible students.  These are the individuals who, for various reasons, go unnoticed and unheard of within the educational system. Their tears, though hidden from plain sight, tell a poignant tale of neglect, isolation, and unrealized potential. The tears shed by invisible students are not just the result of their challenges; they reflect a failure of the education system to provide an inclusive and supportive environment for all learners. Teachers, administrators, and policymakers must recognize and address the factors contributing to the invisibility of these students, striving to create a learning environment that nurtures their uniqu...

Imagine this scenario: you're strolling near the A classes, minding your own business, when suddenly a bitter aroma reaches your nostrils. You scrunch up your face, swiftly closing your nose in desperate self-defense against the assault of unpleasant odors. Who would have thought that passing by a restroom at UDUS would turn into a game of holding your breath? But that's not all! The real surprise comes when nature's call strikes. You reluctantly approach one of these facilities and brace yourself for the inevitable disco...

Column with Legal Queen: Reject Filters, Embrace Your True Beauty

Image
By: Muhammad Habibat Sani (UmmuYasmeeen)  Once upon a time, people were the epitome of ruggedness, sporting their unshaven faces like badges of honor. But then, Snapchat filters swooped in and whisked away their beards. In their place, the filter bestowed upon them the gift of dainty flower tiaras and luscious pink lipstick. We now have an army of manly men transformed into glamorous princesses. Move aside Cinderella, the prince charming is stealing the spotlight! Now, let's not forget about the fabulous ladies. From the moment they stepped into the Snapchat universe, they were ready to capture hearts with their beauty. But alas, the filters had other plans! Suddenly, their eyebrows morphed into mischievous caterpillars, and their eyes turned into oversized anime characters straight out of a trippy cartoon. Oh, the struggles of being a damsel in distress with Hello Kitty taking residence on your face! But amidst the havoc wreaked by Snapchat,  there is a valuable lesson to be ...

Ethnicity: A Key Challenge to the Security and Nation Building in Nigeria

Image
By: Abdul-rouf Sofiyat Dasola  Nigeria is a heterogeneous entity composed of a large mass of people from different cultural, ethnic, linguistic, and religious affiliations. These attributes have been inescapable bondage to the country, owing to its complex historical and colonial legacy. The initial revocation of the Royal Niger Company Charter in 1899 and the subsequent merging of existing several ethnic linguistic, and cultural groups and communities which had then attained different levels of political and economic development by the British colonial masters resulted in what is known as Nigeria today. Before colonial rule, the then territory has three major ethnic nationalities with differences in the way governmental activities were run. The feudalistic Oligarchy in the North, centralized monarchical Democracy in the West, and decentralized in the East. From a religious view, though Hausa were practicing Islam due to the Jihad conquest. The Yoruba and Igbos on the other hand ar...
